Slow-Cooker Spiced Apple Butter

Posted on03.27.16 by Nelle

Spiced Apple ButterSlow Cooker Spiced Apple Butter is easy to make. Combine all the ingredients in your slow cooker and let it go. It is great for small batches of apples and when you don’t want to spend all day canning.

You can make apple butter out of any apples, but if you can, it is always best to go with soft apples. They will cook down faster, and be ready to process sooner. I opt for a mix of apple varieties for the best flavor.

These are some of the best apples to use for this apple butter recipe:

Braeburn
Cortland
Crispin (Mutsu)
McIntosh
Fuji
Golden Delicious
Rome

Ingredients for Slow Cooker Spiced Apple Butter

18 medium soft apples (I chose Cortland and McIntosh for this batch.)

1 cup apple cider

1 cup unrefined coconut sugar

3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

Instructions for Slow Cooker Spiced Apple Butter

Combine all ingredients in a 6 quart slow cooker, stir until well combined.

Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours. Mash or puree apples, I used a hand blender for this, but a food processor will also work.

Cover and cook on LOW for another 4-6 hours or until mixture is deep brown and spreading consistency. Allow to cool.

Process pints in a water bath canner for 10 minutes (makes about 4 pints).

OR…Cover and chill for 8 hours. Can be stored in refrigerator for up to three weeks.

This recipe can also be made on your stove top over a very low heat. I would not advise leaving it over night. Stir often.

You can enjoy this slow cooker apple butter recipe in your favorite recipes or on rolls, biscuits, or toast.
