Taco Seasoning Mix

Posted on03.06.16 by Nelle

Paleo Taco Seasoning MixI have been using this Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe for many years.  We never buy the packet from the store. This recipe is MSG and grain free and so much healthier for my family.

I have included instructions for making taco meat using this mix at the bottom of this post. You can also use this mix in other recipes that call for taco seasoning. Sprinkle Taco Seasoning Mix on chicken, beef, pork, or vegetables before cooking.

Ingredients for Taco Seasoning Mix

1/4 cup dried minced onion

3 tablespoons chili powder

2 tablespoons ground cumin

2 tablespoons sea salt

1 tablespoon crushed cayenne pepper flakes

1 tablespoon dried minced garlic

2 teaspoons crushed oregano

1 tablespoon arrowroot powder

Instructions for Taco Seasoning Mix

Place all ingredients into a pint-size canning jar and shake well. You can divide this up in six equal parts, about 1/4 cup each, and put in plastic bags for convenience.  I just leave mine in the jar and use 1/4 cup, plus 1/2 cup of water for one pound of ground beef.

Instructions for making Tacos, using this Taco Seasoning Mix Recipe

Brown one pound of ground beef, drain off excess fat.  Add 1/4 cup Taco Seasoning Mix, plus 1/2 cup of water and mix well. Simmer uncovered for about ten minutes, or until water has evaporated.  I use this mix to make a Taco Salad topped with chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped lettuce, taco sauce, and guacamole or sliced avocados.  Makes about 8 servings.
